Europe is small enough to cross in a day by train, yet every country feels different: its own language, food, prices and rules. This Europe travel guide is here to help you plan a trip that fits your time and budget, without the guesswork. Each article above answers one clear question, from the best places to visit in Croatia to the most rewarding road trips in Scotland and the Christmas markets worth the trip.
When to go. May, June and September give the best balance of good weather, open attractions and fair prices. July and August are the hottest, busiest and most expensive months, especially on the Mediterranean coast. Winter is the cheapest season in most places, except in ski resorts and in cities with famous Christmas markets in December.
How long to stay. For a first trip, plan 10 to 14 days and two or three countries at most. Trying to see five countries in ten days means more time on trains and in airports than in the places you came to see.
Entry rules. Most of Europe belongs to the Schengen Area, where many visitors can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all member countries combined. Rules depend on your passport and are changing, with new EU border checks and the ETIAS travel authorisation on the way. Always check the official Travel to Europe site before you book.
Getting around. Trains are the easiest way to travel between major cities, and many routes are faster door to door than flying. Budget airlines work well for longer hops, but check the baggage rules before you compare prices. On the coast and between islands, ferries take over.
What it costs. Europe can be expensive or surprisingly cheap depending on where you go. Switzerland, Scandinavia, the UK and Ireland sit at the top end, while the Balkans, Portugal, Poland and much of Eastern Europe offer the same quality of trip for far less. Each of our guides lists real, current prices so you can compare before you decide.
